Walk 45 or 450 miles to support people experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness
Last summer, a group of companions, Chloe, Carlton, Jagger & Peter, who are all supported by Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney walked 450 miles across the country to raise funds and help more people out of homelessness. It was an epic journey - one that impacted their lives and made an enormous difference to the work we can do at Emmaus.
They walked continuously for 6 weeks, across the Via Beata pilgrimage which runs directly through our site in Ditchingham. Starting in Wales and ending in Norfolk to journey was tough, but transformative for companions who gained confidence and self-esteem every step of the way.
We're inviting you to take on your own challenge and walk to end homelessness
The Kindness Challenge:
- Walk 45 or 450 miles in your local area
- Make this challenge your own pilgrimage , use the time to reflect and nurture your mental & physical health.
- You don't have to walk, you can run, cycle, or swim your miles - explore your local area and enjoy time in nature .
- Create a team with your friends, family, running club, or colleagues and compete against each other! Register today and create a sponsorship page to start fundraising for Emmaus! See our step-by-step guide on our website.
At Emmaus we offer more than just a bed for a night, we offer a reason to get out of it in the morning. Companions are welcomed into our community and given the support & work experience opportunities they need to get back on their feet.
Watch Chloe's story below - the money you raise will transform more lives like hers.
Are you from a faith-based community? Learn more about the spiritual journey of pilgrimages in our film here.
To ensure our charity can grow to support more companions, we are opening a social enterprise Bed and Breakfast within our heritage 19th century site. The new B&B will be critical for supporting our companions to gain a more diverse set of skills, at the same time, enabling our charity to grow and develop further much-needed income streams.
Once open, the annual income from one B&B room will provide someone who has experienced homelessness with a home and therapeutic support for a whole year. This will include bespoke training to help get companions back on their feet and support more people year after year. Learn more about our Bed & Breakfast project and our progress here.
Your fundraising will help us to open the B&B and create impactful change year-on-year. Register for the Kindness Challenge and stride to make change alongside us.
