  • About

This August four of our companions, Carlton, Jagger, Peter and Chloe are taking on an extraordinary 450 mile walk from Wales to Norfolk to work towards ending homelessness and they need your help.

The Walk of Kindness is a pilgrimage inspired by the solidarity and compassion that companions show one another in our community daily. Our team of companions, along with our CEO, Cecile Roberts will be walking for 6 weeks starting on August 26th from St David’s in Wales and arriving back at our charity’s home in Ditchingham on October 10th - World Homeless Day. The Walk of Kindness follows the route of the newly formed Via Beata pilgrimage which runs directly through our site in Ditchingham. View the full route here.

All our companions who live with us have experienced homelessness, housing insecurity and often severe trauma. Our community is a home to them and now they want to help others out of homelessness!

"Being at Emmaus has meant for the first time in my entire life that I’ve actually seen a future and not just the next day. I’ve had so much support here and the chance to do things myself and learn from each mistake I’ve made. I wouldn't be here without Emmaus." - Chloe

Help us provide a home, purpose & community for vulnerable people

Providing work and training opportunities is one of the most important aspects of the support we offer at Emmaus. Companions, within the structure of a workplace, are able to re-build skills and discover new interests while gaining confidence and self-esteem. After being on the streets, insecurely housed or experiencing debilitating mental health problems, trauma and addictions, the work opportunities we provide are fundamental to companion's journey to independence.

To ensure our charity can grow to support more companions, we are opening a social enterprise Bed and Breakfast within our heritage 19th century site. The new B&B will be critical for supporting our companions to gain a more diverse set of skills, at the same time, enabling our charity to grow and develop further much-needed income streams.

Once open, the annual income from one B&B room will provide someone who has experienced homelessness with a home and therapeutic support for a whole year. This will include bespoke training to help get companions back on their feet and support more people year after year. Learn more about our Bed & Breakfast project and our progress here.

Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney is part of a global movement against poverty and we are pledging a small proportion of donations to support other Emmaus projects that will empower people across the UK, Europe, South America & Africa.
